The Certifying Scientist is responsible for reviewing, certifying and reporting results for patient samples in the pain management compliance testing program and all clinical toxicology tests. This position interacts with both internal and external clients on interpretation of results and issues arising from testing, and routinely consults with Laboratory Managers and Directors concerning results and client test management.

Work Schedule: 1st shift, Friday-Monday, 7:00am-5:30pm.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for certifying and releasing drug test results
  • Perform certification review of all initial and confirmation data
  • Accurately enter and report test results for all specimens
  • Verification of all chain of custody documents, quality controls, and calibrations
  • Provide technical, interpretive, and/or regulatory consultation and assistance to clients
  • Ensure the initial technical review is complete and accurate
  • Perform GC/MS, LC/MS/MS and GC/FID certification in accordance with SOPs
  • Understand and follow quality procedures and protocols for security and confidentiality
  • Review and follow chain of custody procedures with accuracy and consistency
  • Identify and resolve quality control issues in a timely manner
  • Assist in preparation of litigation packages and affidavits when necessary
  • Consult with laboratory technical staff regarding routine testing issues and practices
  • Prepare and participate in inspections and audits when required
  • Adhere to all regulatory and standard operating procedure requirements
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory requirements
  • Previous laboratory experience is required; 4 years is highly preferred
  • Prior GC/MS and LC/MS certification experience is a plus
  • ASCP/ AMT certification preferred
  • Comfortability working in high volume, fast paced environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at a given time
  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
