The Opportunity

The Supervisor, Instrument Services (Supervisor) will direct the day to day activities of the engineering technicians; will ensure the integrity of the Genmark work instructions for ePlex repair/maintenance and is responsible for the monitoring of, repair and scheduled preventive maintenance on ePlex instruments and ePlex fixtures across multiple labs.
You will diagnose failure, replace defective components and perform basic troubleshooting with support from Engineers using standard electronic equipment, detailed drawings, diagrams, sketches, specifications, prints, manuals and verbal and/or written instructions; You will maintain appropriate maintenance and repair logs.
You will Make detailed observations, help to analyze data and interpret results.
You will use a variety of hand, power and test tools and equipment.
You will Verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
You will maintain lab space and project workspaces
You will execute test plans, including verification and validation following protocols
This position is located on-site in Carlsbad, CA and Torrey Pines, CA.
There are no relocation benefits for this position.
Who You Are:
(Required)
You have a B.S degree in engineering, computer science (and/or other relevant areas of studies) with 3+ years of related experience working on instrumentation
You have a demonstrated level of expertise in written and verbal communication skills, preparation of documents (including data summaries, reports and procedures.)
You have demonstrated problem solving skills: ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; suggestions for alternate ways to improve processes.
You have demonstrated the ability to interact with internal customers and listen to their concerns about instrument performance so as to provide status updates on repairs.
Preferred:
You have experience in molecular diagnostics
You have demonstrated experience with SolidWorks, CAD, JMP software
You have experience managing the daily work of other technicians
You are adaptable to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events; manages competing demands
You have excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple changing projects and priorities
You have experience working collaboratively, fostering professional and constructive relationships as part of a team
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The essential functions of the job are usually performed in an environmentally controlled facility where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may involve a combination of office and biotechnology laboratory environments. The employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, blood borne pathogens and automated equipment.
While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
This position is based in Carlsbad, CA and Torrey Pines, CA.
Relocation benefits are not available for this position.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Carlsbad, CA is $64,800 - $120,400. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
