The Position

The Translational Medicine (TM)-ONMI China team provides translational medicine and biomarker development support to inform the clinical development of novel personalized therapeutics in disease areas of Ophthalmology, Cardiovascular & Metabolism, Neuroscience, Immunology and Infectious Diseases (OMNI). Our biomarker strategies are designed to study the molecular pathways driving the disease and to establish the mechanism of action of our therapeutics. We focus on diagnostic, prognostic, predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers to enable our vision of “the right drug for the right patient at the right dose.”

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the TM China team to support biomarker research studies in ophthalmology, Cardiovascular & metabolism, neuroscience and/or immunology therapeutic development programs. The incumbent will lead or contribute to translational science projects in China for programs in late and early stages of clinical development, before and after approval.

The successful candidate is expected to effectively work cross-functional teams in China and globally. Effectively communicating to and developing collaborative relationships with key investigators and thought leaders in China.

Scope of position

The individual will be responsible for establishing China biomarker/diagnostic strategy and its execution for China OMNI clinical development programs in certain disease areas. She/he will also be responsible for biomarker exploratory research and translational research projects carried out for specific diseases.

As a Scientific Manager in OMNI-BD China team you are expected to:

  • Support China and global clinical development programs in OMNI disease areas (both early and late-stage clinical trials), including setting up program specific China biomarker strategy, testing plan, and executing them

  • Provide knowledge of biomarker science and disease biology to clinical development project team, and provide support in protocol writing etc. as needed

  • Lead and execute biomarker studies and collaborations as well as data analysis and interpretation for TM-OMNI therapeutic projects in China

  • Managing external vendors as well as institutional collaborators to ensure generation of high-quality data

  • Contribute to publications of data generated in context of the China Biomarker Activities in high quality scientific, technical or medical journals and represent OMNI-BD externally through presentations at key internal and external meetings and conferences

Requirements

  • PhD, MD or PhD/MD degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g. molecular or cell biology, ophthalmology, metabolism, neuroscience, immunology or infectious disease etc.)

  • Minimum of 3 years post-doctoral experience in Biology/Translational Medicine/Medical research either in an academic and/or industry setting

  • Experience in biomarker research or clinical biomarker development is preferred

  • Expertise in translational medicine in cardiovascular/metabolic diseases, or ophthalmology, or immunology diseases is desired

  • Experience and knowledge in state of art biomarker technologies including immunoassays, NGS, IHC, FACS, PCR, etc.

  • Experience and expertise in data analysis and interpretating biomarker data is a plus

  • Experience in clinical drug development is beneficial, including basic or advanced understanding of critical development functions, e.g. Clinical Pharmacology, Regulatory, Safety, Operations, Biostatistics, etc.

  • Significant experience and ability to enable execution on programs

  • Excellent skills of presentation and communication in English and Chinese
