Job Description

About the role:

The Senior EHS Specialist is responsible for the deployment, implementation, monitoring and coaching of core Technical EHS programs, and standards across the site. You will help ensure the site complies with all federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety (EHS) regulations. Additionally, you will provide technical support to manufacturing, engineering, and maintenance departments. You will report to the Head of EHS.

How you will contribute:

  • Support the development and strategic planning for the successful implementation, compliance, and maintenance of core technical EHS programs (i.e., Electrical Safety, Confined Space Entry, Lockout Tagout, Hazardous Waste Management, and Root Cause Investigation skills).
  • Align manufacturing, engineering, and maintenance departments on implementation of EHS standards and programs.
  • Support the site EHS formed groups / committees (Safety, MERT, Health & Wellness, Sustainability) by: taking a leadership role and encouraging employee participation.
  • Coach and teach investigation skills, root cause analysis and CAPA's at all levels throughout the site.
  • Lead the development for community building and engagement throughout the local community.
  • Help develop the training strategy for EHS programs in partnership with Business Excellence and the site training function.
  • Lead the incident response, communication, and resolution process for EHS related issues on site.
  • Collaborate and consult with project teams to lead EHS Management of Change process.
  • Advocate for the EHS Reporting Management System (Beacon) and other data sources to analyze leadership behavior, injury, illness, and audit trends to Identify EHS gaps and opportunities with solutions.
  • Through collaboration with Head of EHS, help manage site activities, which impact areas of EHS regulatory compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Provide management assistance in maintaining ISO 14001 and 45001 certification status and setting goals for all EHS program.
  • Communicate EHS performance metrics for reviews.
  • Coach site personnel assigned to lead incident investigations for potential serious incidents / injuries or fatalities (pSIF) and serious incidents / injuries or fatalities (SIF) events.
  • Prioritize and set clear goals when faced with conflicting demands and partners.
  • Will follow detailed written and oral instructions in English.
  • Develop, support and implement compelling strategies that integrate continuous improvement methodologies into site's operations regarding EHS.
  • Expert knowledge in core technical EHS programs (i.e., Electrical Safety, Confined Space Entry, Lockout Tagout, Hazardous Waste Management, and Root Cause Investigation skills):
  • Experienced in providing leadership in the application of continuous improvement tools and delivering training topics to meet our goals.
  • Experience developing management systems programs.
  • Experience managing compliance or improvement plans with demonstrated results.

What you bring to Takeda:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Science, Engineering or other related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience.
  • OSHA 30 Hour General Industry certification.

Important Considerations

At Takeda, our patients rely on us to deliver quality products. As a result, we must follow strict rules in our manufacturing facilities to ensure we are not endangering the quality of the product. You may:

  • In general, your work will be a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions of the facility.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push/pull up to 25lbs (with assistance of material handling equipment).
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for an extended period over an 8–12-hour shift between rooms and across the site.
  • Must be able to ascend / descend stairs / ladders and perform work related tasks in mezzanine and roof work environments.
  • May require bending, twisting, reaching overhead, and squatting motions to perform certain tasks.
  • Work with virtual and off shift teams.
  • Indoor working conditions.
  • Will work around moving equipment and machinery.
  • May work in confined spaces/areas.
  • Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions.
  • May work with and must not be allergic to cephalosporin.
  • May work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.
  • Will need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
  • May work in a cold, hot or wet environment.
  • May work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
  • Will work on multiple shifts, including weekends, to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
  • Will work non-traditional work hours, including weekends and holidays.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
