The summer internship program is a full-time commitment of 12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Our internship program also provides you with the opportunity to network with people at Takeda through various planned events and activities.
The US Pipeline Evidence Generation and Payer Medical Strategy intern will have the unique opportunity to support two of Takeda’s Value & Evidence Generation teams: (1) New Product Planning Health Economics and Outcomes Research (NPP HEOR) and (2) Value, Access, Insights, & Solutions (VAIS). The US NPP HEOR team is responsible for providing the US voice into product development from Phase 2 to about two years before US launch. The team works with other US NPP and global cross-functional colleagues to ensure clinical trials and evidence needs (e.g., epidemiology, burden of illness, cost, etc.) align with downstream patient, payer, provider requirements. The US VAIS team is responsible for payer medical strategy and communication, which includes preparing pipeline products for launch (starting at approximately 2 years prior to product approval), by ensuring payer clinical and health economic needs are met to inform formulary decision making. The VAIS team is also responsible for training the US medical payer-facing field team to ensure launch readiness and field excellence.
Project Outline:
The US Pipeline Evidence Generation and Payer Medical Strategy intern will support the US NPP HEOR team by engaging in a research project to support one or more of Takeda’s pipeline assets in neuroscience, rare disease, dermatology, and/or gastrointestinal disorders. The research project may include conducting a targeted literature review to inform HEOR study rationale, development/refinement of research question(s) and proposed study methodology, conducting research, analysis and synthesis of research findings, and reporting/discussion of results to the cross-functional team. The intern will understand why the research is being conducted and how the results will be applied to pipeline asset development.
In addition to gaining an understanding of the evidence generation process, the intern will also become familiar with evidence dissemination to the payer customer by supporting the US VAIS team with launch preparation. This engagement may involve assisting with the development of the payer medical value narrative, payer engagement strategy, and related payer medical communication tactics. The intern may also support training programs for the US medical payer-facing field team to prepare for pre-approval and peri-launch payer engagements.
The intern will participate in cross-functional meetings, collaborations between medical and commercial teams, meetings with US and global partners, and project work interactions with vendors. During the internship, opportunities will exist to better understand the role of medical affairs and health economics and outcomes research in pipeline drug development from a US perspective and to explore careers in medical affairs.
The final scope of the intern’s responsibilities will be determined after starting the position and in alignment with both learning and business needs.
