Project Overview:
Thermo Fisher Scientific in Uppsala provides comprehensive testing solutions to aid in the diagnosis and management of allergy and autoimmune diseases. At System R&D department, where this master thesis will be conducted, we focus on the development of software and instrument solutions.
This thesis opportunity is perfect for individuals interested in understanding the regulatory framework for medical device development and gaining experience in usability validation in a regulated setting.
Supported by a local team of UX professionals, you will plan, perform, analyse, and document usability tests of software currently in development. You will validate mitigations of identified user-related risks and identify general usability issues.
This hands-on experience will provide you with practical knowledge of processes that are regulatory requirements for many companies in the life sciences sector.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, perform, analyze, and document usability tests of laboratory instrument software.
- Validate mitigations of identified user-related risks.
- Identify and address general usability issues.
- Collaborate closely with a team of UX professionals to ensure flawless execution of usability tasks.
- Adhere strictly to regulatory standards and guidelines throughout the process.
What You Will Learn:
- How to perform usability tests as part of a regulated development process, including planning, execution, analysis, and documentation.
- The standard ISO/IEC 62366 – "Application of Usability Engineering to Medical Devices," and the related FDA Mentorship "Applying Human Factors and Usability Engineering to Medical Devices."
- How to apply the standard and FDA recommendations in practice.
- Aspects of crafting for expert users in a specific context of use.
About the Applicant:
- Proficient in Swedish and English.
- At least basic knowledge of Figma.
- Ongoing master’s level studies with a strong focus in HCI, HFE, Interaction Design, Usability, User Experience, or a related field.
- Meticulous and organized.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to direct your career towards crafting products for professional users in the life sciences sector.
