Position Summary
We are currently seeking an outstanding Automation Engineer to join our extraordinary team at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. in Greenville, NC. As an Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in driving technological innovation and efficiently implementing automation solutions. Typical hours for this role are 6a - 6p, on a 2-2-3 rotation.
Responsibilities:
Provide support for a twenty-four-hour production operation by diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues to maintain system readiness and function for a wide variety of system platforms including but not limited to; Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), Wonderware, SQL, current DCS (D/3 and Factorytalk), and data historians.
Complete projects and assignments independently and as part of a team on time and within budget. This requires innovation to analyze situations and develop appropriate designs.
Ensure complete and detailed specifications and documentation through creation and/or review.
Develop and modify applications as required to meet changing production need. Also assure the successful start-up of new operations by ensuring code and configurations meet specifications and all changes meet validation requirements.
Provide project team input on system capabilities and assist teams with system design decisions.
Maintain automation databases and procedures as needed.
Work in a safe and responsible manner to sustain an injury-free and incident-free workplace.
Stay in sync with all job-related safety and other training requirements.
Maintain innovative Automation systems, solutions, implementation strategies and trends.
Accept other duties as assigned.
How will you get here?
Education
High school diploma or equivalent is minimally required. An associate's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related subject area is preferred.
Experience
Experience in computer control system start-ups, loop tuning, bug fixes, and control system modification and maintenance is required.
Minimum of 1+ years of trade or real-world experience with a current DCS such as PlantPAX, D/3 or Delta V is preferred.
Experience with development of configurable control and supervisory system and historian type program development, configuration and maintenance including the OSI PI, Wonderware, and Allen-Bradley (Rockwell)FT Historian data historians.
Electro-mechanical or electrical backgrounds such as instrumentation technicians or maintenance technicians looking to move into automation

Experience with Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) products ranging from independent SLC, Micro-, Compact-, and ControlLogix applications.
Experience with Wonderware stand-alone and Wonderware System Platform is helpful.
Experience with IT and OT networking including VLAN management and Stratix switch configuration is helpful.
Experience in a cGMP, biotech, or pharmaceutical industries is preferred.
Experience developing process or equipment control applications is preferred.
