Job Description

How will you make an impact?

The Manager, Manufacturing Engineering leads a team of Systems Manufacturing Engineers at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Hillsboro, OR. The factory produces low-volume, high complexity products for semiconductor designers and manufacturers to use in the creation and improvement of their products and manufacturing processes. The department is responsible for smooth introduction of new products into the factory and customer sites, as well as the ongoing improvement of products and the processes used to manufacture and service them. The department collaborates closely with the Product Lifecycle Management, Product Marketing, Research & Development, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Quality, Finance, and Global Technical Support groups within Thermo Fisher Scientific throughout the lifecycle of the product.

What will you do?

  • Lead approximately 10 engineers, providing technical expertise in the assigned area.
  • Review incoming requests to provide appropriate prioritization and workload management.
  • Guide, lead, and mentor team members’ professional development through goal setting, mentoring, and providing growth challenges.
  • Coordinate and facilitate factory or field critical issues by interacting with the appropriate functional groups.
  • Use Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Practical Process Improvement (PPI) tools to lead efficiency, scrap reduction, process improvement, and cost improvement projects.
  • Work with the Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering to support the development of the Hillsboro Operations Engineering strategy.
  • Provide recommendations to the department’s Annual Operation Plan (AOP) and ensure spending aligns with the plan.
  • Develop close relationships and partnerships with various departments to resolve process inefficiencies.

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in a technical field, or a combination of technical education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
  • 5+ years proven track record in the high-tech industry.
  • 2+ years management experience in a manufacturing, technical support, or service management role.
  • Proven track record to plan and resolve issues involving multi-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites.
  • Ability to acquire a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally.
  • Proficient in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with statistical process control, Six-Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and 5S.
  • Experience in semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing and/or service.
  • Knowledge of key technologies including vacuum, motion control, process automation, optics, and material selection.
  • Knowledge of applications and customers of Electron Microscopy products.
