Description of Work | The Animal Science Department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking a talented individual to oversee the activities of the Non-Ruminant Nutrition Lab.
As the Animal Nutrition Lab Manager, you will: - Oversee laboratory activities in the Nutrition Laboratory and perform analyses and independent research in collaboration with principal investigators and graduate/undergraduate students from multiple nutrition disciplines.
- Perform analyses on feed, tissue, blood and other samples on a routine basis and include: energy determinations using an adiabatic bomb calorimeter, quantification of peptides, proteins, antibodies and hormones using ELISA, RNA/DNA isolation and determinations using traditional/real-time PCR, and basic cell/tissue culture.
- Provide guidance and direction in the safe implementation of methods and procedures. Maintain instruments in good working order to ensure acquisition of accurate analytical results. Facilitate instruction in the correct use and operation of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Develop and refine protocols for assays conducted in the laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications | The following qualifications are preferred, but not required: - Master’s degree in biological or chemical sciences
- Knowledge of analytical/wet chemistry including HPLC, Nitrogen analysis, UV-VISSpectrophotometer
- Knowledge of basic techniques in molecular, micro, and cellular biology, e.g., DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, electrophoresis, and cell/tissue culture; and (4) mechanical skills.
