The Food Service Equipment Mechanic III will:
  • Be responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all commercial food service equipment, including but not limited to; gas (LP), electrical, steam, plumbing of refrigeration, and non-refrigeration commercial cooking equipment and maintenance/operations associated with commercial hoods.
  • Develops and executes a routine preventative maintenance program for all University owned food service equipment.
  • Develop a service record system to document maintenance and repairs on all university owned food service equipment, and accurately maintains records.
  • Creates and maintains a food service equipment, parts, and supplies inventory system.
  • Conducts in-service staff training on proper cleaning and daily maintenance of equipment.
  • Responds to emergency and after-hour food service equipment failures to ensure continuation of service operations.
  • Assists with routine and preventative repairs and maintenance in other skilled trades as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with all current codes, regulations, requirements, policies and guidelines.
This position is considered essential, and provides assistance in the event of an emergency.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Relevant coursework, or specialized training beyond high school; equivalent experience considered. Four years of general maintenance experience or equivalency. Journeyman level training in at least one of the preferred trades. Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements. The following skills are required:
  • Knowledge of gas operated equipment, electrical systems, plumbing, refrigeration and a variety of cooking equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety practices and OSHA regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and community members in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to understand equipment specifications and requirements from construction blueprints, drawings and plans.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems, draw valid conclusions, and develop appropriate alternatives where applicable.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, logs, and files.
  • Ability to effectively and accurately explain to users how to properly operate equipment.

Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree in one or more of the listed trades preferred:
HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Refrigeration. Full-time experience with commercial food service equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas stoves and ovens, steamers, warmers, and fryers.
