As a Commissioning Agent, you will:
  • Review the installation, calibration, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of building systems, such as HVAC, refrigeration, fume hoods, laboratory systems, exhaust systems, and energy control systems, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to design specifications and operational standards.
  • Provide technical assistance, expertise, and/or oversight for project development, cost estimation, design solutions, implementation, site inspections, and post-project evaluations.
  • Assist with the development and execution of plans, programs, and processes related to HVAC, system commissioning, and energy management.
  • Manage commissioning activities for building systems, and develop and refine processes for optimizing system performance.
  • Develop, update, and communicate technical processes and standards for maintaining and improving system performance.
  • Evaluate and integrate energy management recommendations into HVAC and controls systems.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of building automation systems and address advanced operational concerns.
  • Perform regular reviews of the Energy Management Control System (EMCS).
  • Ensure building systems comply with relevant codes, including building, electrical, and fire codes, and organizational policies and standards.
  • Prepare and maintain commissioning documentation, including plans, checklists, and reports.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on system functionality, operational protocols, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Act as a representative of the department for project reviews, site inspections, implementation of energy management control systems, and energy conservation initiatives.
  • Manage expenditures for materials and contracted labor for maintenance and construction projects.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, facilities management, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in building systems commissioning, facilities management, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in interpreting design drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Skilled in understanding and addressing both presenting and underlying issues, recognizing and acting upon new information, conditions, and priorities effectively.
  • Proven ability to identify and evaluate opportunities, manage multiple and changing priorities, plan and coordinate work for self and others, and complete projects with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proficient in utilizing relative computer software and adept at learning and adapting to new software and teaching others to use new technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to engage and address the interests and concerns of diverse audiences with varying agendas, goals, and perspectives.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, facilities management, or a related field.
  • Experience with energy modeling software and building management systems (BMS).
  • Familiarity with sustainable building practices and certification processes (e.g., LEED, WELL).
  • Knowledgeable of commercial construction, HVAC equipment (mechanical and
    electrical) and control devices, psychometric processes, liquid and gas fluid flow,
    heat transfer and electrical processes.
  • Certification as a Commissioning Professional (CCP, BCxP, CxA) or equivalent.
