Description of Work | Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for ASEM, the Director of International Recruitment and Admissions is responsible for providing strategic leadership for all international recruitment and enrollment efforts at UNL. The Director is responsible for the development and implementation of campus-wide strategies to attract and enroll international students at UNL. The Director is responsible for overseeing individuals who manage, plan, and implement international recruitment efforts. The Director identifies new strategic initiatives in international recruitment and admission, develops strategic plans, and executes the full range of management responsibilities overseeing the international recruitment and admission team.
The Director will develop strategic priorities in the identification and engagement of prospective students, partner schools and emerging markets. The Director is responsible for meeting the University’s undergraduate international enrollment goals as defined by the University Enrollment Management Plan.
The Director will develop relationships with external and internal constituencies designed to heighten awareness of the University of Nebraska with global audiences and serve as the primary liaison to UNL partner agencies engaged in international recruitment. This role has significant visibility and accountability to the campus and the public. It requires extensive public speaking, as well as professional interaction with executive and senior members of the University. The Director oversees an assistant director, UNL located recruitment specialists, and “in-country” recruiters located in strategic global markets. Leveraging the expertise of staff members, recruitment agents, and in-country recruiters, the Director provides oversight for the development and implementation of innovative recruitment and yield strategies for international student populations. As a strategic leader in the ASEM division, the Director works closely with Admission leadership, attends admission leadership meetings, and collaborates with other key university departments on UNL campus. The primary focus of this role is on the strategic oversight and planning for international enrollment, but the Director also works in support of all aspects of the enrollment goals for the entire incoming undergraduate class.
The Director works closely with university leaders to oversee the review policies and processes of international applications managed via the centralized Admissions Operation unit. The Director also works closely with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs and ASEM Director of Enrollment Marketing and Strategic Enrollment Initiatives to develop and execute a strategic marketing plan specifically focused on international students. Under the guidance of the AVC for ASEM, and in collaboration with the Director of Scholarships and Financial Aid and Global Strategies, conduct ongoing international net pricing assessments to achieve enrollment and tuition revenue goals. The Director will work closely with Nebraska Alumni Association to identify and train international alumni volunteers to serve as institutional resources in student recruitment.
Other position responsibilities will include but are not limited to coordinating recruitment activities, including attendance at fairs and events through the development and execution of an integrated plan with associated targets and KPIs. Ensuring continual development of new recruitment markets and assessing the sustainability and productivity of existing channels. Critically assessing and evaluating recruitment activity with respect to its value for money and investment returns in relation to targets, making changes and improvements as necessary. Identifying emerging risks to the University’s recruitment targets and formulate plans to mitigate risks by managing across the breadth of the University’s international recruitment activity. This position is located on the UNL campus; however, international travel is required. Minimum Required Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in communications, higher education administration, community engagement/development, business, international affairs, or a related field and 5 years in managing higher education recruitment or scholarship programs, international admissions, or enrollment management. 2 years management experience in either recruitment, admissions, or enrollment. Demonstrated experience in working with international populations. Demonstrated experience working in international recruitment and admission with expert-level knowledge of the international education landscape (e.g., global educational systems, recruitment markets, and visa processes). Demonstrated experience successfully operating at a strategic level, providing vision and leadership for international recruitment through data-informed analysis. Demonstrated cultural competence through active listening, seeking understanding of diverse perspectives, and respecting lived cultural experiences. Demonstrated excellent communication and organizational skills, public speaking experience, ability to work independently. Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing circumstances and adopt new solutions through leveraging existing knowledge, technology, and data tools, including seeking input from team members, partners, and networks, incorporating new experiences to inform perspectives, and strong proficiency in standard office software solutions. Experience developing reports, managing budgets, staff supervision. Ability to relate to people of all age groups, academic abilities, and cultures. Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements. |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree preferred. Proven success in developing, executing, and yielding enrollment with respect to an international recruitment strategy for or at a public university with an overall full-time enrollment of >10,000 students and >1,000 international students. Experience living, working, and/or studying abroad.. Experience working with global high schools, agents/agencies, universities, embassies, government contacts, and other specialized educator bodies to secure international student enrollment for U.S. higher education undergraduate and graduate programs. Demonstrated proficiency in speaking multiple languages – e.g., English + another language(s). Demonstrated experience with CRM technology for admissions inquiry, prospect, and applicant management. |
