The Position:

The Lead Clinical Lab Technician’s primary responsibility is to assist analytical and post-analytical processes associated with specimen processing and test performance under the supervision and control of licensed individuals in the clinical laboratory and department leadership. The Lead Clinical Lab Technician is also accountable for the direct day to day operation of the clinical laboratory which may include accurate data entry into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and /or preparing samples for analysis and management of laboratory throughput and turnaround time.

The Lead Clinical Lab Technician is knowledgeable with, and is a resource for others within the laboratory, the use of equipment, databases, and software applications. The person in this position must be able to coordinate the integral daily tasks which consists of making sure that clinical lab technician personnel are performing their duties, maintaining flexibility with regards to work schedule including section assignment, daily work shifts, and days of the week as determined by business need, in order to meet the quality needed for excellent patient care.

This is a full time position with a schedule of Tuesday - Saturday 12:00pm - 8:30pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Lead Clinical Lab Technician functions as a team lead, providing guidance, resources and helps the supervisor coordinate workflows within the department. In addition, the main duties and responsibilities of the Lead Clinical Lab Technician include the following, but not limited to:

  • In addition to performing the functions of Clinical Lab Technician II, this level is responsible for monitoring team training, assigning, and reviewing work and ensuring quality throughout in analytical and post analytical processes
  • Multi-tasking efficiently, maintaining flexibility, and working as a team lead in processing samples according to multiple workflows and maintaining established turnaround times
  • Proactively contribute to reaching team goals of cost-effective, high quality patient care services through leadership, technical expertise, and the appropriate utilization of resources
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Capable of identifying specimen processing problems that may adversely affect the reporting of test results and immediately notify the supervisor
  • Under direct and constant supervision by a licensed individual,
    • Assist in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and the performance of quality control activities in accordance with the laboratory’s policies and procedures
    • Preparation and storage of reagents
    • Able to follow instructions and strictly follow procedures
  • Assist in maintaining supply inventory logs- materials and laboratory supplies
  • Maintain equipment by performing preventative maintenance
  • Support and coordinates staff training and competencies
  • Maintain equipment reagent inventory levels for daily laboratory operations
  • Create lab schedules for all team members licensed and unlicensed for each lab shift and process
  • Complete other related administrative duties, including copying, filing, data entry, faxing, and quality control of spreadsheets
  • Assist in the creation of, training, and implementation of departmental standard operation procedures
  • Assist in research and validation activities as the subject matter expert and work to translate improvements and new assays into the laboratory workflow
  • Enhance existing procedures and services with quality that exceeds expectation
  • Demonstrates the ability to take initiative, drive productivity, and build a collaborative environment.
  • Understand and perform laboratory activities to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Perform all duties according to guidelines outlined within the quality systems
  • Compliant with company policies, procedures, safety requirements and regulations
  • Other duties assigned by Laboratory Supervisor/Manager

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory technology or other experience may be accepted by management
  • 3-5 years of experience in a laboratory setting
  • Enthusiasm and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Demonstrated self-starter
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to navigate efficiently through, or have familiarity with, various laboratory information systems (LIS) and have proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Repetitive movement of hands, arms, and legs
  • Repetitive movement of fingers (typing and/or writing)
  • Sitting, with occasional walking, standing, stooping, and moving about
  • Exposure to general office environment conditions
  • Talking and hearing
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
