Job Description
General Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Controller, the Executive Director, Assistant Corporate Controller is a critical leadership role that will help to drive and scale the Company’s global financial close and reporting processes. The Executive Director, Assistant Corporate Controller, will be responsible for overseeing the global close and consolidations, external financial reporting (including SEC reporting and international statutory requirements), technical accounting, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. The role/function has significant responsibility within the Controllership Organization overseeing consistent execution of the team’s responsibilities, including driving system and process excellence.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and direct all aspects of Vertex’s global accounting close and financial reporting processesEffectively manage and develop both US and International accounting teams, including the consolidation, general ledger, SEC reporting, technical accounting, and SOX compliance teamsCoordinate the company’s financial reporting activities with external auditors on a global basis, including SEC quarterly reporting, SOX requirements and statutory requirements for international entities.Plan and execute for impacts to accounting processes and systems driven by Vertex growth from new product introductions, global expansion activities, and business developmentDrive the adoption of common processes and standards across the company and in partnership with internal stakeholders. Identifies ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of companywide financial reporting.Ensure adoption and compliance with new and upcoming accounting regulations (FASB, SEC).Work closely and communicate effectively with corporate partners in Corporate Finance, Investor Relations, Business Development, Legal, Tax, Treasury, and IT to ensure that corporate information and support needs are consistently met.Develop talent and lead a superior, high-performing team and that meets increasing needs and requirements across the business and helps drive the overall organization forward.Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent leadership and team management skillsStrong communicator with the ability to collaborate cross functionallyDeep knowledge of US GAAP requirements and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations Finance Process Excellence or Six-Sigma experience a significant plus.Experience in a publicly traded large biotechnology/pharmaceutical company preferredBig 4 experience and large ($1B+) multinational industry experience required.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in AccountingTypically requires a minimum of 15 years of progressive, relevant financial leadership experience, including the management of large teams that are geographically dispersedCPACompany Information
