Job Summary:
Vertex Pharmaceuticals Biometrics & Real World Evidence (RWE) is seeking a RWE Summer Intern (graduate level; onsite [Vertex Fan Pier] preferred; ~June – August 2025) to develop in-depth understanding of the epidemiology / natural history of key diseases. The Biometrics & RWE team leverages epidemiology, real world data and other clinical disease state knowledge to assess the natural history of – and real world outcomes associated with – diseases within Vertex’s early development and clinical portfolio. This work supports the needs of Commercial, Translational Medicine and Clinical Development internal stakeholders. The RWE Summer Intern will participate in ongoing projects within this scope.
Key Responsibilities:
The RWE Summer Intern’s scope of responsibility includes:
- Use of in-house databases and / or existing external partner collaborations to characterize select diseases of interest (e.g., natural history, validation of key outcomes)
- Execution of in-depth literature reviews to describe the epidemiology of diseases of interest
- Participation in scientific document preparation (i.e., study concepts, protocols, and reports)
- Observation of day-to-day activities of RWE study lead(s) to enhance understanding of the expectations for such a position
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in an epidemiology, biostatistics, or other public health-related doctoral program from an accredited school of public health through September 2025
- Possesses strong understanding of observational research methods (familiar with modern concepts of theoretical Epidemiology / Pharmacoepidemiology)
- Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong interest in pursuing a career within the biopharmaceutical industry
- Highly motivated; has an excellent work ethic
- Experience with registry and / or administrative claims / EHR data preferred
- Experience with rare diseases, Genetic Epidemiology, or Demography preferred
- Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States
- Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before May 2025
- Candidate must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from May - August 2025
