The Opportunity

Our location in Columbus, OH currently has an opportunity for an Analytical Laboratory Supervisor with experience in analytical test methods for nutrients in foods/food products. Primary Job Function

Serves as supervisor of routine R&D testing laboratory for Physical Stability in ingredients and nutritional product samples as prescribed by validated methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Accountable for producing high-quality results and achieving quality standards while operating within constraints of company policies and safety guidelines. Responsible for managing all aspects of day-to-day laboratory operations, including direct supervision and training of lab analysts, reviewing and authorizing test results, and assisting with instrument qualification, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Works closely with Product Development to support basic scientific research, new ingredient technologies and product formulations with minimal guidance from manager/supervisor. Also, supports test-method experts on method development and validation projects. May also lead ad hoc R&D projects like validation optimization, SOP updates, etc.

What You’ll Work On

  • Oversees all aspects of routine R&D testing of physical stability in ingredients and nutritional products.
  • Supervises small team of laboratory analysts and reviews their work.
  • Operates and provides maintenance on various analytical instruments, including but not limited to rheology, particle size, pH, headspace oxygen, and osmometry.
  • Trains laboratory analysts and maintains training records and documentation.
  • Conducts investigations into method deviations and out-of-specifications results.
  • Ensures compliance, overall data integrity, and adherence to SOPs and safety requirements.
  • Documents accuracy, quality, and timeliness of experimental results
  • Participates in routine laboratory maintenance, safety, and GMP implementation as appropriate.
  • Coordinates method research under the guidance of a subject matter expert, project coordinator, or R&D manager
  • Partners with product developers for testing novel samples and provides clear communications when atypical results occur.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING

Required:

  • BS in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or related field with at least 5 years of experience in research or industry laboratory.

Skills/Competencies

  • Understanding of physical stability and hands-on experience with analytical test methods for physical stability preferred
  • Strong understanding of analytical sciences
  • Ability to setup, validate, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instruments, including but not limited to rheology, particle size, pH, headspace oxygen, and osmometry.
  • Ability to supervise technical personnel and manage their performance and development.
  • Experience operating and performing maintenance on analytical instrumentation.
  • Experience with Sample Manager (LIMS) preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems, particularly out-of-specification results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience writing technical reports and test method documents.
  • Experience following standard operating procedures in GMP environment.
  • Good understanding of relationship between product specifications and test method accuracy and precision preferred.
  • Ability to work well with others by sharing laboratory equipment and space.
  • Ability to summarize data and analyze results; formulate conclusions and review progress with manager.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong drive for results
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

The base pay for this position is $64,000.00 – $128,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
