The Opportunity

This position works out in our facilities of Irving TX in the Diagnostics Division.

What You’ll Work On
Primary function is to develop technical documentation for automated IVD systems. This includes preparing technical documentation to
support domestic and international regulatory submissions; market labeling; clinical labeling; troubleshooting guides; training aids; and
customer communications for diagnostic assays and instruments.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Developing operations manuals and processing translations in a content management system (CMS).
  • Collaborating with a team of subject-matter experts (SMEs), editors, graphic designers, and information architects.
  • Editing text for spelling, grammar, style, and general clarity.
  • Optimizing content organization and ensuring consistency in tone and presentation.
  • Identifying problematic usage of grammar, punctuation, abbreviations, and terminology.
  • Identifying inconsistencies in common outputs across product lines.
  • Reviewing graphics for accuracy, correct positioning, and layout.
  • Applying proofreading techniques and markup to rigorously compare documents for accuracy and conformance to content and format.
  • Incorporating all required changes for a product release and documenting reasons and justifications for each change.
  • Processing manuals for review and approval according to procedures.
  • Learning how to use in-house tracking and product management systems.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Online help development responsibilities include executing software development life cycle activities in line with secondary labeling activities
  • from software requirements; design; and implementation through design verification. Must verify that information is presented in a clear;
  • complete; accurate; and concise manner. Responsible for developing all software components of online help using current software
  • technologies.

Primary areas of responsibility are as follows:

  • Secondary Labeling
  • Design and develop technical documentation according to plans and practices
  • Design and develop process; tools; and techniques to support availability of technical documentation in various formats
  • Design and integrate multimedia elements (graphics; videos; animations; sound) for technical documentation
  • Develop technical content to support product documentation
  • Ensure technical documentation receives appropriate level of review; approval; and verification based on Q-docs
  • Perform CM for documentation work products
  • Secondary Labeling Translation
  • Creating redline packages
  • Coordinating graphic updates
  • Facilitating resolution of content questions; formatting problems; and conversion issues for technical documentation in various formats
  • Facilitating functionality verification (create protocols; perform informal testing debug; perform formal testing; audit objective evidence; create data package summaries)
  • Communicate concerns; priorities; plans; and practices through regular e-mails and conference calls.
  • Maintain CM for translation files
  • Responsible for fault isolation; troubleshooting; and root cause analysis activities during system integration and testing for systems in development and on-Market.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

Position Accountability / Scope
This is an entry level individual contributor position. Activities will be under the guidance of a more senior Online Help Developer or Manager.
Accountable for meeting deliverable commitments including schedule and quality requirements. Must have skills to plan and schedule own
work activities; coordinate activities with Subject Matter Experts and other Online Help Developers; and review other Online Help
Developers’ work.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in English language, Journalism, or Technical writing, or equivalent writing experience.
  • 1 year experience covering the entire software lifecycle (requirements definition through verification) in a team environment.
  • 1-3 years experience in Technical Writing.
  • Requires experience with Microsoft Windows applications.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Attention to detail and ability to recognize patterns
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with DITA XML a plus
  • Experience with a CMS (preferably a component content management system) a plus
  • Experience in the medical device industry a plus

The base pay for this position is $64,000.00 – $128,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
