Our location in San Diego, CA currently has an opportunity for a

Senior Purchasing Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you will support sourcing and securing all materials and services required to support Manufacturing and R&D at the minimum cost, using suppliers who meet or exceed our quality, service, and delivery expectations. Senior Purchasing Coordinators perform the day-to-day activities necessary to procure commodities, capital, supplies, and services used by the division, adhering to Corporate Purchasing Policies and Division Purchasing Procedures.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Supplier Management:

    • Serve as the primary Abbott Purchasing contact for suppliers.
    • Assemble bid packages and requests for quotes or proposals, distribute to suppliers, and consolidate responses for review.
    • Award business and participate in agreement negotiations per Purchasing policies.
    • Create purchase orders for commodities supplied to domestic manufacturing plants and third-party manufacturers.
    • Forecast commodities, check for accuracy, and provide to suppliers, addressing any concerns or questions
    • Act as the liaison between Abbott Accounts Payable and suppliers on invoicing issues.
  • Order and Delivery Management:

    • Run open order and delinquent PO delivery reports, acting as the liaison between the division and suppliers for late deliveries.
    • Expedite or delay commodity deliveries based on forecast changes.
    • Verify that purchase order releases and requisitions reflect the proper price.
    • The coordinator must deal with competitive bids, supplier delivery issues and the effect to production, calculate the cost of inventory destructs, understand the factors related to setting commodity standard costs and purchase price variance, and must work with suppliers to resolve invoicing issues.
  • Problem Solving and Quality Assurance:

    • Partner with suppliers to alleviate chronic delivery or quality problems.
    • Manage the return of rejected materials to the supplier, coordinating with plants and QA.
  • Communication and Documentation:

    • Manage communication with suppliers related to specifications, QA Supplier Questionnaires, and qualification requirements.
    • Provide Buyers and Purchasing Management with updates on obsolete materials, new prices, inventory variances, and production schedule changes.
    • Ensure information flow to Abbott Legal regarding new contracts, terms and conditions, and Confidentiality Agreements.
    • Efficient plant production and building and maintaining beneficial partnerships with suppliers cannot be achieved if the Senior Purchasing Coordinator responsibilities are not carried out successfully.
    • Communication with internal and external customers, and the ability to deal with multiple, challenging situations.
    • Internal Support:

      • Assist internal customers with using Abbott’s purchasing systems and P Card program.
      • Provide guidance related to procurement processes, including P.O. requirements and invoice payment requirements.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

    REQUIRED

    • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Finance, Customer Service and/or Plant Operations or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
    • 4 years' experience related to a combination of Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Logistics, Manufacturing, Customer Service, and/or Finance.
    • Experience with inventory control and basic accounting principles.
    • Strong technical aptitude with systems including Avante, Symphony SAP, Abbott's Accounts Payable systems, Excel, and Word
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to make decisions quickly using sound judgment.
    • Understanding of inventory control and basic accounting principles.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Experience in managing relationships with external partners and internal departments.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

    The base pay for this position is $34.75 – $69.45 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
