The Opportunity
This position works out of our Costa Rica – Alajuela location in the EP Division. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
As the EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) Specialist II, you will be responsible for responsible for the implementation and sustaining of all EHS programs according to local and external regulations. The resource must also be aligned with all regulations established by Abbott on the previously mentioned scopes.
What You’ll Do
- Support, Implement and manage the EHS technical and procedures assigned and related with the Environmental, Health and Safety Scopes.
- Reports to Environmental Health & Safety Specialist IV or top level of portfolio on the performance of ALL EHS programs and routines.
- Meet the strategic organization goals and targets for supporting the execution and achievement.
- Directly responsible of performing regular EHS inspections and closing actions, supervision on field in routine and non routine activities as well as audits support on field.
- Comply with the completion of documentation and reports timely (reporting, documentation, metrics on both verbal and written forms) required by the local and Federal regulatory agencies on the Environment, Safety and Health Scopes and support on the INFOR action´s closing.
- Participate and support in Emergency management.
- Establish and maintain the ergonomic program.
- Investigate EHS incidents and their prevention.
- Responsible for and has the authority to ensure that the Environmental Management System (EMS) is established, implemented and maintained in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 & ISO 50001.
- Interface with the corporation to achieve necessary EHS goals and ensure site complies with local legislation.
- Responsible to support to Operations, Maintenance and Facilities with all EHS critical permits and licenses required for Abbott site operations.
- Develop and manage EHS projects and initiatives for ensuring the legal compliance, corporate and other requirements.
- Responsible to train employees in EHS topics ( brigade team, NHO, EHS Annual Training, Contractors Training).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in EHS Engineering, Safety and Occupational Health, Safety Engineering, Environmenal Management Or EHS Technician; EHS Inspector with relevant/certified/proven experience within the field.
- 2-4+ years’ experience developing EHS policies and procedures in Occupational Health, Safety and ergonomics areas and assuring their alignment with governmental regulations.
- Experience with emergency response, life safety, ergonomic evaluation, the proper handling of biological and industrial waste materials.
- Use PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheets, and/or Microsoft Project.
- Must have knowledge in OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, INTECO and ISO 14001, ISO 50001 standards.
- Intermediate command of English language (required).
- Domain in SAP, INFOR, excel, word, power point, outlook, Windchill.
